KOCHI: A woman was brutally assaulted by her brother and his wife accusing her of chain theft. The incident happened at Nandikulangara in Paravoor. The woman brutally assaulted has been identified as Jomol. The police have registered a case against Jaison and his wife Raina on the complaint of Jomol filed with the Aluva West Police.

A dispute had been ongoing between the siblings over the division of family property. Jaison also owed Jomol Rs one lakh, but he was unwilling to repay the amount. To avoid paying the money, he raised a false theft accusation. He claimed that his 2.5-sovereign gold chain was missing and accused Jomol of stealing it, following which she was assaulted. The issue had frequently led to arguments within the family.

Jomol later decided to file a complaint with the police and invited her friend to the house for that purpose. The assault was after that. Her friend had recorded the assault on her mobile phone. The police during investigation found the chain from beneath a bed. It was also found that the chain was an imitation one. Jomol, who was injured in the assault, sought treatment in the hospital.
