Vadakara MDMA case: Special Investigation Team arrests delivery boy following teacher's arrest

VADAKARA: The delivery executive allegedly involved in an MDMA deal worth Rs 1 crore has been arrested in the Vadakara MDMA case. The arrest comes hours after police took into custody a special education teacher allegedly linked to the same case.

The accused have been identified as Jigil Kuryakose (23), a delivery executive from Koottupuzha in Iritty, and V.P. Nishma (30), a special education teacher at the Perambra Block Resource Centre (BRC). Police said Jigil played a key role in the Rs 1 crore MDMA deal, including the delivery of the contraband. A search is also underway for his friend, who is believed to be another key accused in the case.

Investigators said the statements of previously arrested teachers K. Kavya and K.C. Keerthana, along with bank transaction records and digital evidence, led them to Nishma and Jigil. Following her arrest, the Education Department dismissed Nishma from service.

Police said the arrested teachers were friends and had allegedly consumed narcotic substances. Vadakara Inspector A.V. Dinesh, who is leading the investigation, said more arrests are likely as the probe progresses. Investigators found that the accused split the proceeds from the drug deals across multiple bank accounts to avoid raising suspicion. Police will examine the source of the funds and trace the money trail. Transactions ranging from Rs 2,000 to Rs 50,000 have been identified in various accounts.

Drug deals through Instagram

Police said the accused contacted buyers through social media before personally delivering MDMA. Investigators are examining Instagram accounts, chat records, call details and other digital evidence. According to the investigation, the teachers were working on temporary appointments and earned modest salaries. However, they allegedly led a lavish lifestyle. Police suspect they received commissions for facilitating the drug deals.

Investigators will also examine how the money was spent, whether it was transferred to other bank accounts, and whether it was used to purchase assets. The probe into the teachers began after the arrest of Rizwan in an MDMA case two weeks ago. The investigation is being carried out by a special team led by Rural District Police Chief Merin Joseph.
