Collected payments of Rs 20,000 from buyers and transferred them to suppliers; teachers adopted new methods for drug trade

KOZHIKODE: More details have emerged in the case involving the arrest of three teachers in connection with an alleged MDMA trafficking network. Police said the teachers acted as intermediaries between buyers and suppliers. Investigators have collected evidence showing that they transferred money received from buyers to the drug suppliers.

According to the police, the teachers collected payments of Rs 10,000 and Rs 20,000 from buyers and transferred the money to the suppliers. They then shared the location of the pickup point through Google Maps. Police said the accused contacted drug trafficking networks through Instagram to arrange the deals. The three teachers allegedly shared the money earned from the drug trade. Police also found that the accused had links with drug trafficking groups based in Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

Police examined the bank records of the accused and found transactions running into lakhs of rupees. Investigators said Rs 14 lakh was credited to Keerthana's bank account over the past year, while Rs 9 lakh was deposited into Kavya's account within five months. Police are also monitoring the people who transferred money to the accused. The next focus of the investigation is to identify the people who directly delivered MDMA to buyers.

The arrested teachers have been identified as Kavya, Keerthana and Neeshma, who were working at BRS Perambra. Neeshma was a special educator who taught students with autism and also worked as a trainer for teachers. Following their arrest, the Education Department dismissed all three contract employees from service. Jijil, a native of Iritty in Kannur district, has also been arrested in the case. Police said Keerthana had actively participated in anti-drug awareness programmes before her arrest.
