THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A multi-crore loan app fraud racket has been busted in the state capital. The DANSAF team arrested 18 men from North India allegedly involved in the racket and seized 50 computers during the operation. The group mainly targeted foreign nationals, with most of the victims believed to be from the United States.
The fraud operation was being run from Sreekaryam in Thiruvananthapuram. The arrests were made during inspections carried out as part of Operation Toofan. Police had been monitoring the area after receiving intelligence that some migrant workers were involved in drug trafficking in Sreekaryam. During the investigation, officers uncovered the alleged loan app scam and conducted a raid on Monday. One of the accused attempted to escape through the airport but was caught by police after a chase.
