IDUKKI: A 62-year-old plantation worker lost his life in a wild elephant attack. The incident happened in Thalakkulam Estate at Poopara in Idukki. The dead is Ocha Thevar of Tamil Nadu’s Bodinayakkanur. Although he was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, his life could not be saved.
A team including the DFO will soon reach the spot. Locals complain that the area has been witnessing frequent wild elephant incursions. Although the Forest Department’s Rapid Response Team (RRT) drives the elephants back into the forest, they routinely return to populated areas. A herd of wild elephants had been camping at Thalakkulam Estate since morning. Around 40 people have been killed in wild elephant attacks in the area over the past 20 years.
