Bus overturns while swerving to avoid scooter; around 30 injured

KOCHI: A tourist bus carrying a wedding party overturned at Kakkoor in Koothattukulam, Ernakulam. Around 35 people were reportedly on board, according to preliminary information. Nearly 30 passengers sustained injuries, four of them seriously. They have been admitted to a private hospital in Koothattukulam.

The wedding party was travelling from Kalady to Elanji when the accident occurred. A scooter travelling alongside the left side of the bus suddenly turned towards the right, making the bus driver to swerve sharply to avoid a collision. As it was raining, the bus skidded on the road and overturned near a petrol pump. The rear of the bus also hit the scooter involved in the incident.

After swerving, the bus veered towards the side of the petrol pump. However, it did not hit the petrol pump averted a major tragedy. After the bus overturned, another scooterist coming from the same direction had narrowly escaped. CCTV footage of the accident has also emerged.
