Case filed against Sunny M Kapicadu over remarks about Sabarimala Ayyappa and Malikappurathamma

TIRUR: Police have registered a case against activist Sunny M Kapicadu over controversial remarks he made about Lord Ayyappa and Malikappurathamma during a speech at a protest in front of Thunchath Ezhuthachan Malayalam University in Tirur. The case was registered based on a complaint filed by the Vettom panchayat committee of the Hindu Aikya Vedi. The organisation's Tirur taluk secretary, Idathottil Manoj Kumar, submitted the complaint to the Tirur SHO.

Kapicadu allegedly made the remarks while addressing a protest held in support of Anagha Sasi, a research scholar at the university. The protest was organised to express solidarity with her.

The complaint alleged that Kapicadu's remarks hurt the sentiments of devotees and contained obscene references to Lord Ayyappa and Malikappurathamma.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said that a case had been registered over Kapicadu's remarks. Kapicadu later apologised, saying he had not made any derogatory remarks about Lord Ayyappa or Malikappurathamma. He said he regretted the words he had used during the speech.

Several organisations, including the Pandalam Palace, the Thiruvabharana Patha Samrakshana Samithi and the BJP Tirur committee, had demanded legal action over Kapicadu's remarks. The case was registered amid these demands.
