THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chintha Jerome, former chairperson of the Kerala Youth Commission and a member of the CPM state committee, has been officially elected as the first woman state president of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) in Kerala. In the DYFI state conference held in Thrissur, M Vijin, MLA from Kalliasseri and former SFI state secretary, was elected as the state secretary. Former Thiruvananthapuram Mayor Arya Rajendran has also been included in the DYFI state secretariat.
R Shyama, V Anoop, Mohammed Afzal, P Shabeer and Nikhil Babu have been elected as vice presidents. Adv R Rahul has been elected as the treasurer. Greeshma Ajay Ghosh, Rajeev Vellatt, Shyam Prasad, Sachin Dev and K Anusree are the joint secretaries.
Chintha Jerome is a native of Kollam. She entered organisational politics through the Students’ Federation of India (SFI). She has served as the SFI Kollam Area president, district joint secretary, state vice president and central committee member. She was also the chairperson of the Kerala University Union during 2007–08. She holds a doctorate in English Literature from the University of Kerala.
M Vijin is a leader who won from Kalliasseri in both the 2021 Assembly election and the latest assembly election. He has held several organisational positions, including SFI Kannur District Secretary, Kannur District President, State Secretary and All India Joint Secretary. He has also served as DYFI Unit President, DYFI Unit Secretary and Kannur District Treasurer.
