THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister V D Satheesan handed over the government appointment order to Niranjana Nair, the daughter of late Kannur Additional District Magistrate (ADM). She has been appointed as food safety officer under the compassionate appointment scheme. Niranjana accepted the order directly from the chief minister. Her mother D Manjusha, Health Minister K Muraleedharan and Pazhakulam Madhu MLA were present there. The UDF Government decided to appoint her under the compassionate appointment scheme following the request of Naveen Babu’s family.

Naveen Babu committed suicide after the then Kannur district panchayat president P P Divya had publicly levelled corruption allegations against him during his farewell function at the Kannur Collectorate in 2024.

His family informed his colleagues in Kannur as he did not reach home even after booking a ticket in Malabar Express. Naveen Babu had informed his family that he would reach Chengannur early morning. Naveen Babu was found dead when his driver came in search of him at his residence in Pallikunnu. The government later handed over the investigation to the CBI.
