KANNUR: The crime branch team has arrived in Andhra Pradesh’s Chittoor in search of Dr M K Ram, accused in the death of Nithin Raj, a student of Anjarakandy Dental College. The team is of the belief that Ram is hiding in Chittoor. He is likely to be nabbed soon.
The Supreme Court had rejected Dr Ram's anticipatory bail plea. Following this, the investigation team expanded the search. The court, which rejected the anticipatory bail plea, made harsh remarks against Ram. A bench including judges Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta had rejected his bail plea.
The court asked Ram's lawyer whether teachers should behave like this with the students. The court also asked whether he had thought about the mental state of the students when they are humiliated in front of their classmates.
The court termed the incident as cruel and inhumane. The court also said that teachers who do such things should understand the consequences. However, the lawyer appearing for Ram argued that there was no caste abuse and there was no evidence for it. Dr Ram has been absconding for three months.
Nitin Raj jumped to death from the college building on April 10. Nitin Raj had earlier informed his family that Ram, the head of the dental anatomy department, was mentally torturing him.
