Forensic report confirms students were drunk at time of accident in Kaipamangalam

THRISSUR: Reports say the students who died in the vehicle accident in Kaipamangalam had consumed liquor. After getting hints about this during the postmortem examination, a forensic examination conducted at the Government Medical College Hospital confirmed that the students were drunk. Dr T S Hitesh Shankar, Head of the Department of Forensic Medicine, who led the postmortem, had stated that the preliminary conclusion was that the students had consumed alcohol.

The car involved in the accident was travelling at an excessive speed. The impact of the crash was so severe that even bones and blood vessels were fractured. One of the students was driving the car. Blood samples have been sent to the Chemical Examiner’s Laboratory in Kakkanad for detailed examination. Tests are also being conducted to determine whether any narcotic or other intoxicating substances had been used.

In a social media post, Dr T S Hitesh Shankar, Head of the Department of Forensic Medicine at the Medical College, clarified that the presence of alcohol in the blood alone cannot be stated to have been the cause of the accident.
