Bike falls into pit dug on road for drinking water project; 61-year-old man dies

TIRURANGADI: A 61-year-old man died after his bike fell into a pit dug on a road as part of a drinking water project. The victim, Kunnathery Mustafa of Chemmad Exchange Road, was one of the earliest loading workers in Chemmad town.

The accident occurred on the night of August 10. Mustafa was returning home after picking up his son, Suhaib, who had arrived from Tamil Nadu after work. At around 10.45 pm, their bike overturned after falling into a pit on the road at Chanthappadi in Tirurangadi.

Both Mustafa and his son were injured in the accident. Passers-by and locals rushed them to Tirurangadi Taluk Hospital, where they were given first aid. They were later shifted to a private hospital in Kottakkal for further treatment. Mustafa died while undergoing treatment at around 10 pm on Tuesday. His son remains under treatment.

After a post-mortem examination at Tirurangadi Taluk Hospital, Mustafa's body will be laid to rest at Chemmad Karipparambu Kottuvalakkad Juma Masjid on Wednesday evening. Mustafa is survived by his wife, Khadeeja, and children Suhaib, Habeeb, Shabeeb and Fathima.
