THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Local Self-Government Minister K. M. Shaji has said the state will implement the Supreme Court's directions, including euthanasia of rabid dogs, to address the growing problem of stray dog attacks in Kerala. Speaking at an interaction programme organised by the Kerala Union of Working Journalists (KUWJ), the minister said the government would also explore the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to better understand the behaviour of stray dogs.
Shaji also outlined several initiatives planned by the government. He said a Waste Management Authority would be set up to improve waste management across the state. Three centres would also be established to monitor the utilisation of funds meant for vulnerable sections of society.
The minister said the government would examine measures, including the introduction of municipal bonds, to help municipalities and corporations generate their own revenue. He also said the proposal to upgrade panchayats into municipal councils is under consideration.
Responding to questions on the appointment of N. Seshadrinathan as the State Election Commissioner, Shaji said the appointment had already been made and the matter was closed.
"The appointment has been completed. It is dangerous to label any person as communal. He has served as both a lawyer and a judge. The appointment was made only after examining all relevant aspects," the minister said.
