THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Navya Bakes and Confectioneries India Private Limited, based in Karukutty, Angamaly (Ernakulam district), contributed Rs 40 lakh to the KSRTC for the purchase of a new bus. At a ceremony held in the Chief Minister’s chamber at the Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan accepted the cheque from the company’s Managing Director, Biju Joseph Chakkiath.

Transport Minister CP John expressed his gratitude towards individuals, institutions, and public representatives for supporting the KSRTC by purchasing and donating buses. The first such contribution came from an individual named Jose, from Angamaly, who personally bought and donated a bus—a commendable gesture that eventually set a trend. Subsequently, other individuals and cooperative institutions also stepped forward to donate buses. The Minister further noted that the number of buses pledged through the MLAs' Asset Development Fund has now reached nearly one hundred.

Higher Education Minister Roji M. John expressed his special delight in people of his constituency taking the initiative to help rescue KSRTC from its current crisis. It is highly significant that individuals and institutions wholeheartedly embraced the Transport Minister’s proposal to procure and donate buses. This reflects the credibility of KSRTC. The Minister further noted that this also serves as an endorsement of the 'Priyadarshini' project, which was originally introduced by the UDF government.

Biju Joseph told the media that the introduction of the 'Priyadarshini' free travel service encouraged many women—who had previously remained confined to their homes—to step out and travel. Biju said that the project inspired him to offer money to purchase a bus for the KSRTC. He mentioned that over 500 women employed at his establishment rely on the 'Priyadarshini' service. Biju further stated that he has requested the Transport Minister to ensure that the bus he is donating operates out of the Angamaly depot. KSRTC CMD Dr. P.S. Pramoj Shankar, along with members of Biju Joseph’s family, was present at the ceremony where the funds were handed over.
