THRISSUR: The prime suspect in a case involving the murder of a 65-year-old woman in East Fort, Thrissur—and the theft of her jewellery- was apprehended after 31 years. The accused previously absconded while out on bail. Thrissur City Police arrested the suspect, Krishnakumar—a native of Ottapalam—from Kollam. The victim, Martha, lived alone. The murder took place on October 31, 1995.

Prasad, a hotel employee and native of Koratty, along with his friend Krishnakumar, broke into Martha’s house at midnight, suffocated her to death using a pillow, and stole gold ornaments weighing six sovereigns. The accused were arrested, but they secured bail, after which they absconded. Prasad was subsequently apprehended. Krishnakumar, who had fled to Meerut, later returned and had been living in Kollam with his family for the past 15 years.

Krishnakumar used to earn a living through welding work. Meanwhile, it is understood that his wife and children were unaware of his involvement in the murder case.
