THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister K Muraleedharan suggested that the proposed Peroorkada flyover be extended up to the Income Tax Office in Kowdiar, as a permanent solution to the severe traffic congestion on the Peroorkada–Kowdiar road. The Minister submitted a letter to Chief Minister VD Satheesan regarding this request.
Although in-principle approval was granted for the construction of a flyover at Peroorkada, the Minister pointed out that a design ending before the Ambalamukku junction would not provide a comprehensive solution to the traffic issues in the area. In light of this, K. Muraleedharan requested the Chief Minister to direct the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB)—the agency implementing the project—to incorporate necessary changes and take urgent action.
The severe traffic congestion centred around the Peroorkada and Ambalamukku junctions is causing significant hardship to the public. The minister said it would provide great relief if the current project were revised to extend the flyover—starting from the Vazhayila road side of the Peroorkada junction, passing the Ambalamukku junction, and concluding in front of the Income Tax Office at Kowdiar.
Minister stated that a permanent solution to the traffic congestion along the Peroorkada–Ambalamukku–Kowdiar stretch can only be achieved by implementing a comprehensive traffic infrastructure system.
