MVD turns a blind eye to former minister's helmetless bike ride; debate amplifies on social media

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Motor Vehicle Department did not issue a challan to former Devaswom Minister Kadakampally Surendran for riding without a helmet. On July 1, Kadakampally Surendran reached Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala's residence on a scooter without a helmet. The visuals appeared on live television, and a debate ensued on social media.

In the RTO's reply to the RTI request, it was found that no penalty was imposed against the former minister. The report indicates that the MVD did not take action despite receiving a complaint. Kadakampally Surendran had earlier stated that he visited the Home Minister for a private meeting.
