Man found dead inside police-impounded autorickshaw in Palakkad's Pattambi

PATTAMBI: A 42-year-old man was found dead inside an autorickshaw that had been taken into custody by the police at Koppam near Pattambi early this morning.

The deceased has been identified as Ashraf, son of Abu, a native of Vadakkumpuram, Mavandiyoor near Valanchery. The vehicle was parked by the roadside under police custody when the body was discovered.

Background of incident

According to local sources, the police had impounded the three-wheeler following an accident caused by its driver, Sunil, who was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.

Ashraf was travelling as a passenger in the vehicle at the time. His brother, Mustafa, who was also accompanying him, was reportedly asleep inside the autorickshaw when the incident came to light.

Investigation initiated

The exact cause of Ashraf's death remains unclear. The local police have initiated an investigation into the incident, and further details are expected following a post-mortem examination.
