Salim Kumar remembered through a lifetime of laughter; Public homage begins at Paravur Town Hall

KOCHI: Actor Salim Kumar, who gifted Malayalees a number of memorable characters filled with laughter and emotion, passed away last night while undergoing treatment for pneumonia at Amrita Hospital in Ernakulam.

There is a large crowd at Paravur Town Hall to pay their last respects to him despite the incessant rain. The body was brought here at 9 am. The public viewing will continue till 1 pm. As per his wishes, he will be laid to rest in the compound of his house without following any rituals.

He is very young. He was not that old at all. When I think about it, it brings immense sadness. Right now, I reminded a line from the film Mazhathullikkilukkam, in which we acted together. There was heavy rain all along the journey as we came here. At the end of that film, there is a dialogue: 'Rain is the joy of the soul.'
