
PALAKKAD: The main accused in the brutal assault of two female students in the heart of Kochi city was arrested after five days. The main accused and the link in the sex racket, P Akbar Ali (29), of Perumannil house in Mannarkad, Palakkad, was arrested by the North Police from Cherpulassery on Saturday.
The accused was arrested by a team led by North Principal SI Gladwin Edward. The investigation is progressing for the six accused, including the young woman. The police believe that Akbar has details of them.
At 4.30 am on Tuesday, a ten-member gang, including two women, attacked the female students on Chakkalapadam Road near Kaloor Junction.
An investigation team was sent on the assumption that Akbar Ali had crossed into Tamil Nadu. The arrested Albin Simon, a native of Edappal, Malappuram, and Sabit and Arun, natives of Mannarkad, are in remand. An investigation into the sex racket in which Akbar Ali is a link is also underway.
