KANNUR: The CPM Chuzhali local committee has expelled SFI leader K Navaneeth following a complaint that he allegedly filmed a woman while she was bathing. Party leaders said they would provide legal assistance to the woman. They also described the incident as an isolated one and accused others of trying to defame the party over the incident.
Navaneeth is the University Union Councillor of Devamatha College, Paisakary. The incident reportedly took place around 8 pm on August 20. The woman noticed someone filming her on a mobile phone while she was bathing in a bathroom outside her house. Hearing her screams, her relatives rushed to the spot and caught Navaneeth. When they checked his phone, they allegedly found videos of the woman bathing. She immediately deleted the videos from the phone.
The woman later filed a complaint with the Sreekandapuram police. Police registered a case against Navaneeth under sections related to trespassing and filming a person without consent.
He was released on station bail after police found that the videos were no longer on the phone. The phone has been sent for forensic examination. Police said additional charges would be added based on the forensic report. Meanwhile, the woman had also filed a complaint against the police with the Home Minister.
