Tragedy in Tripunithura: Son of former Cochin Devaswom Board member dies on morning of her funeral

TRIPUNITHURA: A profound wave of grief has enveloped the Vadakkekotta Pazhoor Line vicinity in Tripunithura following a devastating turn of events where a son passed away just hours before his mother’s scheduled cremation.

P.K. Rugmini Amma, 83, a former member of the Cochin Devaswom Board, and her son, Harimithra, 51, lost their lives within a short span of time.

Rugmini Amma passed away on June 21, and her final rites were scheduled to take place on June 24 at their family residence. Harimithra, who had travelled home from the United States to care for his mother, passed away unexpectedly at around 4:00 AM on June 24, the very morning he was to bid her a final farewell.

Following the sudden double tragedy, the heartbroken family and local community coordinated to conduct the funeral services for both the mother and son together on the residential premises.

Rugmini Amma was the wife of the late Harisharma. She is survived by her other son, Harikrishna. Harimithra is survived by his wife, Parvathy.
