THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The DGP has returned the Special Investigation Team (SIT) report recommending action against ADGP M R Ajith Kumar for sabotaging the rescue operation case in Alappuzha. DGP Ravada Chandrasekhar sought clarification on certain portions of the report before taking further action. The SIT had submitted its report to the DGP on June 23.
It was earlier reported that the DGP would soon forward recommendations to the government seeking action against Ajith Kumar for sabotaging the case of assaulting Youth Congress and KSU activists during the Nava Kerala Yatra.
The Congress leadership had demanded stringent action against Ajith Kumar. They had strongly criticised the delay in taking action on the findings of the SIT. However, the home department has maintained that disciplinary proceedings can be initiated only after all procedural formalities are completed. Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala had stated that all government actions would be subject to judicial scrutiny and that legally required steps would be taken at the appropriate time.
The home department is reportedly considering departmental action against Ajith Kumar before he is elevated to the rank of DGP later this month. Action is also expected against two grade sub inspectors who were in Ajith Kumar’s office. It is alleged that in 2024, Ajith Kumar summoned investigating officers to his office and then made changes in the case diary before submitting the final report in the court.
