Vellappally Natesan: CPM’s attempt to bring about change is a good thing

ALAPPUZHA: SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan said the CPM’s attempt to correct its mistakes and bring about changes through discussions at its extended state committee meeting was a positive step. He was speaking to the media during his birthday celebrations.

Natesan said there are people within the CPM who can discuss issues, point out mistakes and suggest corrections, and that the party is also willing to listen to them and make changes. “This approach is seen in the Communist Party and nowhere else,” he said.

He also noted that Pinarayi Vijayan had got an opportunity to govern the state for two consecutive terms. “No one had received such an opportunity before,” he said.

Natesan said Pinarayi Vijayan getting two terms could be attributed to his good fortune and good deeds, while losing the chance for a third term could be attributed to bad fortune. “It can be viewed differently depending on each person’s perspective. People will want a change, and they cannot be blamed for that. Wanting to get a third term in office is excessive ambition,” he said.

Natesan also said power cuts were a major problem and reflected the lack of foresight among successive governments. He said no government had made serious efforts to find a permanent solution to the issue.

Regarding the new state government, Natesan said it had been in office for only 100 days and it was too early to make a proper assessment. “The government had some initial starting problems. There were some minor setbacks and issues, but it has improved now,” he said.

‘Nothing wrong with police inspection at Reporter TV office’

Natesan also said there was nothing wrong with the police inspection conducted at the Reporter TV headquarters.

“Can one use a media organisation to do anything wrong just because they own a media outlet? It is also not right to use the media for business interests,” he said.

He said media organisations should function with a focus on fairness and justice. “When they fail to do so, such inspections will happen,” he said.
