MEPPADI: Terrifying CCTV footage has emerged from Wayanad, revealing the true horror and scale of the massive landslide that struck near the Meenakshi Bridge in the tunnel road construction zone, where at least five people have been confirmed dead.
The dramatic visuals, captured by a security camera at a shop located near the bridge, offer a chilling look at the magnitude of the disaster. The footage shows a massive portion of the hilltop suddenly collapsing and roaring downward with immense force. The sheer impact sent a fast-moving torrent of mud, slush, and water completely overriding the Meenakshi Bridge and rushing downstream.
In the video, terrified bystanders are seen scrambling and running for their lives to escape the sudden deluge. Amid the chaos, vehicles on the road are seen skidding uncontrollably through the rising sludge, and multiple individuals are shown being caught and violently swept away by the powerful current.
The landslide occurred around noon on Tuesday near the Meenakshi Bridge in the Kalladi area of Meppadi. The devastation has been catastrophic, with a residential house and a mosque completely destroyed by the impact. A local bus stop and the bridge itself have been entirely buried under tons of displaced earth.
Local authorities have confirmed five fatalities so far, while seven individuals remain missing. Several injured persons have been pulled from the debris and rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Emergency rescue operations are currently underway at the site, and state ministers along with senior officials are rushing to the disaster zone to oversee and coordinate the relief efforts.
