THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heavy rain in the state in the coming days. Rain warnings have been issued in various districts from Sunday. The rain in Kerala is due to the continuation of a low pressure area over northeast Madhya Pradesh and adjoining areas and the presence of a cyclonic circulation over the north Bay of Bengal and Bangladesh.

Another cyclonic circulation is located over the west-central Bay of Bengal and northwest Bay of Bengal near the north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coast. This will cause light to moderate rainfall in the state from today onwards. As the rainfall is likely to intensify from Sunday onwards, a yellow alert has been issued for the northern districts of Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod.

Yellow alert

23/08/2026: Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod
24/08/2026: Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur
25/08/2026: Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam

Isolated heavy rainfall is expected in these districts. Heavy rainfall is defined as rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours.
