Youth killed after container lorry hits him while opening car’s trunk

PALAKKAD: A 25-year-old youth was killed in a tragic road accident after a container lorry rammed into him while he was opening the trunk of his parked car on the national highway at Vadakkencherry Tuesday morning.

The dead has been identified as Sanjay Raj (25) of Coimbatore. The accident happened this morning at around 7:20 am near the excise office at Anakkappara on the Palakkad-bound side of the highway.

Reports say Sanjay had stopped his car by the roadside and was opening the trunk to retrieve a mobile phone charger when a container lorry travelling in the same direction lost control and struck him.

Although he was rushed to a nearby hospital immediately after the accident, the doctors were unable to save his life.

Eyewitnesses said the lorry was not speeding and the wet and slippery road caused by rain may have led to the accident. A relative who was travelling with Sanjay was present there.

The body will be handed over to his family after post-mortem.
