CHENNAI: The DMK has strongly criticised the Congress party for switching sides after winning seats as part of their alliance. The DMK legislative party meeting passed a resolution against the Congress for declaring support for the TVK (Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam). The resolution accused the Congress of betraying and backstabbing them, alleging that the party’s actions in Tamil Nadu mirror the tactics used by the BJP in several other states.
DMK president M K Stalin reportedly asked party MLAs to function as a strong opposition and remain united. He also instructed them to maintain dignified conduct while sitting in the opposition benches. According to reports, Stalin said some important decisions would be taken in the interest of the party and that MLAs would be informed after discussions with senior leaders.
The resolution against Congress began by accusing the party of not giving up its “old habits.” DMK stated that Congress had secured one Rajya Sabha seat and 28 Assembly constituencies as part of the alliance led by the DMK. However, within three days of winning five seats, Congress shifted towards an alternative front. The resolution claimed that the hard work of alliance workers had gone to waste because of this move.
The DMK also pointed out that in Puducherry, Congress candidates had contested in constituencies allotted to the DMK as part of the alliance arrangement. The party described this as a “cruel act.” DMK further alleged that Congress had proved it could not be trusted, not only after the elections but even while the election process was underway.
