JAIPUR: Activist and Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijit Deepke was physically assaulted today during a public demonstration at Jaipur’s Shaheed Smarak. The incident, which occurred in full public view, has sparked widespread outrage across social media platforms.
The altercation took place at approximately 4:30 PM while Deepke was leading a scheduled protest rally. Witnesses report that as supporters hoisted Deepke onto their shoulders to escort him toward the main stage, two unidentified individuals infiltrated the crowd. The assailants reportedly grabbed Deepke by his shawl, dragged him down, and struck him repeatedly across the face before fleeing the scene.
In video footage of the incident that has since gone viral, Deepke’s supporters can be seen attempting to pursue the attackers, only for the CJP leader to intervene, audibly telling his followers, "Don't stop them, let them go."
Deepke, known for his distinct socio-political commentary and distinct party branding, remained unfazed following the altercation. Taking to X (formerly Twitter) shortly after the incident, he firmly condemned the violence while reiterating his commitment to non-violent resistance.
"Physical attacks are a sign of fear and cowardice," Deepke stated. "We will continue to raise our voices peacefully. I am a follower of Gandhi and Ambedkar, and I will keep fighting this battle with peace and love."
Local authorities are reportedly reviewing the crowd footage to identify the assailants. Meanwhile, expressions of solidarity continue to pour in from regional cultural and political circles, condemning the breach of security and the use of violence against peaceful demonstrators.
