KOCHI: The Congress has won back Lakshadweep, the country's smallest Lok Sabha constituency, after a bitter fight. Congress candidate Muhammed Hamdullah Sayeed secured 25,726 votes and won by a margin of 2,647 votes. NCP(S) candidate and sitting MP PP Mohammed Faizal got 23,079 votes. BJP supported NCP Ajit Pawar faction candidate TP Yousuf got only 201 votes. Congress had maintained a clear lead since the beginning of counting. Mohammed Faizal had defeated Hamdullah Sayeed by 1,535 votes in 2014. In 2019, the majority had reduced to 823 votes.
Muhammed Hamdullah Sayeed
He was born on April 11, 1982 in Andrott Island to Congress leader and long-time Lakshadweep MP PM Sayeed and Rahmat. He is the President of Lakshadweep Congress Committee. Hamdullah Sayeed completed his LLB from ILS Law College, Pune. He became a member of the Lok Sabha at the age of 26 from Lakshadweep in 2009. He was the youngest member at that time. Hamdullah Sayeed lost the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Wives: Taslima Padannatha, Prof Dr Amna Mirza. Children: Nada Hamdullah, Subhan Sayeed.
