VIZHINJAM: Three teens were taken into custody over the death of Sivasurya (18), who was killed following a quarrel in Thiruvananthapuram city the other day. Police said that the incident was due to a year-and-a-half-long feud.
A dispute during a football game a year and a half ago led to Saturday’s clash and the resulting murder. The Naruvamoodu police arrested Karthikeyan (21) of Lakshmi House, Old Road, Parurkuzhi, Pallichal; Ajith (20) of Ansil Nivas, Pallichal, and Aromal (21) of Atham House in Pallichal.
The police have launched an investigation into two people suspected of being involved in the incident. It is understood that the police have identified one of them. It will be only after a detailed questioning that the police will be able to unearth the real reason for the murder. The victim, Sivasurya, is the son of Suresh Kumar and Suchitra, of Ayanimoodu.
On Saturday night, around 8 pm, the accused took Sivasurya to Vedivachankoil on a bike to settle the feud. There was an argument, and in the ensuing scuffle, Sivasurya was pushed to a glass door of a roadside clothing shop. The glass shattered, and it penetrated his body. After a brief moment of silence, Sivasurya collapsed on the road, leaving all others in panic. The incident took place in front of the Punnamoodu Social Welfare Cooperative Society on the Pallichal Vedivachankoil Punnamoodu road.
Sivasurya, who was seriously injured and bleeding profusely, was taken to the hospital by the accused Ajith and Karthik on a bike. When he was taken to the Shanthivilla Taluk Hospital, the staff, who became suspicious, stopped the accused and handed them over to the police. CCTV footage of them carrying Sivasurya on a bike has been released. The accused will be produced in court on Monday. The police said that an investigation has been launched for the other accused, and they will be taken into custody for evidence collection.
The locality in Pallichal was shocked by the death of Sivasurya, who was actively involved in sports competitions. He had performed well at the school level in competitions such as javelin, shot put and football. Relatives said that Sivasurya was ambitious and was preparing to join the army.
Sivasurya's body was brought to his house in Ayanimoodu, Pallichal, at 3 pm yesterday after the postmortem. Many people, including friends, teachers and locals, came to see him for the last time. After the public viewing, the body was cremated at the family home of his mother, Suchitra, in Kattakada.
