KOCHI: UDF MLA Uma Thomas has said that her husband, the late PT Thomas, was under pressure while giving his testimony in the actress assault case. She said PT Thomas had encouraged the survivor to remain strong. It was from his phone that the survivor was connected to the IG, Uma Thomas added.
"PT was an important witness in the case. Some people had told him not to give a statement. Others told him not to make his statement strong. He replied that he would not exaggerate anything, but he was also not ready to dilute the truth. He had not named anyone and had only said that those who committed the crime should be punished," Uma Thomas told the media.
She also said that she still has doubts about the incident in which all four wheel bolts of PT Thomas’s car had been loosened during that time. She suspects it might have been an attempt on his life. She added that he treated the survivor like a daughter, and that is why he intervened in the case.
Uma Thomas also spoke about what happened on the night of the incident. "PT came home and went to bed, but around 11:30 pm, he received a phone call. His face changed immediately. He said he had to go somewhere and left. Even when he returned, he was disturbed. He did not sleep at all that night," she said.
Meanwhile, the trial court will pronounce the verdict on December 8. The case, in which Perumbavoor native Sunil Kumar alias Pulsar Suni is the first accused and actor Dileep is the eighth accused, is reaching its conclusion after eight and a half years. Special Judge Honey M. Varghese will deliver the verdict at the Ernakulam Principal Sessions Court, which conducted the trial of the 10 accused.
