PALAKKAD: The body of the college student, who drowned in Malampuzha Dam on Tuesday, has been fished out. The dead is Shemil, a student of a private college at Erattayal in Palakkad.

Shemil hailing from Periyapuram in Malappuram went with his friends to take bath in the dam Tuesday evening at 5 pm. He went missing while swimming back. On being informed, the fire force arrived and started rescue operations, but he could not be found. The search was temporarily stopped due to poor light as it was night. The body was found in the search conducted by fire force’ scuba diving team Wednesday morning.

The students went to bathe in Kaduvachal, the catchment area of Malampuzha Dam. This is a restricted area filled with mud and potholes. Even the locals are hesitant to enter this place. Fire force officials said two students drowned in the same place last year.
