KSRTC to be divided into four sectors from June

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KSRTC will be divided into three independent sectors to make operations agile and efficient and thereby recover losses. KAS officers will be made chiefs of each sectors. Effectively, KSRTC will split into four as the SWIFT service will operate separately. The move will be implemented from June.

The practice of requiring permission from the superiors will not be seen hereafter. The aim is to make every bus profitable and make every depot self-sufficient. The aim is to provide incentives to employees in addition to salary.

KSRTC will be divided into south, central and north regions. Prof. Sushil Khanna had recommended such division in the report. The transport department had also directed KSRTC to implement it. No further action was taken except for the appointment of regional executive directors.

The project became active after Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan issued a strict directive.

Regional authorities will conduct a traffic survey and collect information from passengers. The routes will be reassessed after assessing the number of passengers. Services will be arranged with special consideration for busy routes.

Transfer and salary will be sector wise

1. Appointment and transfer will be sector wise.

2. Salary, fuel and spare parts amount to be paid from the regions

3. Fast passenger, current superfast will be within the jurisdiction of respective region. Long distance services will continue

4. New superfast and other superclass services and city e-buses for SWIFT

5. Fixed amount to be paid for loan repayment etc

6. Private buses can be hired
