THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Supplyco has not decided whether to launch special markets for Easter, Vishu and Ramzan this time. The main reason is the scarcity of subsidized goods.
Tenders were invited but only one supplier tendered for certain items. It has been decided to call the tender again. Other items are expected to arrive from today. Final decision will be made after sufficient stock is reached.
Last time the Easter fair was skipped. The government is afraid that if it does so this time, there will be a setback in the elections. The Food Department has instructed Supplyco to start the process of starting the fair using the available items. The government had sanctioned Rs 200 crores to Supplyco towards market intervention arrears. It is decided to give it to the suppliers as soon as it is received. Regular fairs are held at district and taluk centres.
