THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Culture Minister Saji Cheriyan has announced that Baiju Chandran has been selected for the Television Lifetime Achievement Award, the highest visual media award instituted by the state government in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the Malayalam television industry. The award for 2022 has been announced. The award carries a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh, a citation and a sculpture.
The awardee was selected by a jury comprising director Kamal as chairman, documentary director Shiney Jacob Benjamin, former visual media person and writer Dr TK Santhosh Kumar as members and Chalachitra Academy secretary C Ajoy as member secretary.
The jury noted that Baiju Chandran was a person who had creatively used the television medium for the exchange of education, knowledge and entertainment for four decades since 1985. He has excelled in the fields of news, news-based programmes and telefilms. The jury noted that he had also made commendable contributions to the academic position of the television medium through his writings focused on television history, culture and aesthetics.
The Television Lifetime Achievement Award was instituted in 2020. The former winners are Sasikumar and Shyamaprasad.
