THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A professor at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), a higher education and research institute under the Central Government, was found dead on the institute campus in Vithura here on Sunday. The deceased was Jayanta Sarkar(33).
Jayanta Sarkar and the motorcycle he had been travelling on were found lying inside the campus in the early hours of Sunday. His colleagues rushed him to the Vithura Taluk Hospital, where he was declared dead.
Sarkar had joined the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Thiruvananthapuram, as an Assistant Professor of Mathematics in December last year. He had obtained his PhD from the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata, and had been conducting research in the field of harmonic analysis.
Sarkar, a mathematician and teacher at IISER, was the son of Hemanta Sarkar of Cooch Behar, West Bengal. His body is being kept at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital. The post-mortem examination will be conducted on Monday morning, after which the body will be taken to his native place.
