NEW DELHI: Elon Musk's satellite internet company Starlink is in the process of finalising its approval to operate in India. This comes after the company approved the safety regulations of the Department of Telecommunications for granting the Global Mobile Personal Communications by Satellite (GMPCS) license. This includes the condition that the information of the customers should be stored within India and shared as and when required by the investigating agencies.
Now the MoU has to be officially signed. Based on that, the central government will give permission to acquire the trial spectrum and start the initial work. Starlink had applied for a GMPCS licence in October 2022.
