KOLLAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has once again lashed out at Panakkad Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal. He said that there were many Thangals in the Panakkad family and that his criticism was directed at the president of the Indian Union Muslim League. The Chief Minister was speaking after inaugurating the CPM Neduvathoor Area Committee office in Kollam.
"CPM is a party which has always maintained a proper distance from communalism. The Muslim League started taking stances favouring SDPI and Jamaat-e-Islami ever since Sadiq Ali Thangal became its president. Do not come to us with the language of terrorists. We are against all kinds of communalism," the CM said.
The Chief Minister, who asked if the Congress was making peace with communalism for the sake of votes, criticised the Congress leaders for accepting a former RSS member into their party.
"Secular-minded people are disturbed by the Congress' action of accepting a former RSS member into the party. The ranks of both the Congress and the Muslim League were outraged. It was in such a situation that the Congress and the League brought him to Panakkad. Speaking about this matter, I said a sentence about Sadiq Ali Thangal. Upon hearing it, some people started questioning me for saying so about Thangal. Had the Muslim League taken a favourable stand towards SDPI and Jamaat-e-Islami before Sadiq Ali became its president? Isn't Sadiq Ali Thangal responsible for taking such a stance?" the CM said.
"We will definitely speak up on this matter. If the Muslim League says that we should not speak on this matter, it means they are using the language of terrorists. Do not come to us with the language of terrorists. You cannot stop us from speaking about this issue," he added.
