KOCHI: Minister Saji Cherian said the accident of Uma Thomas MLA in Kaloor was due to security lapses. The government will take strict action in connection with the incident. The minister said putting a chair in the front row of the stage was dangerous and that he also would have fallen from the stage. The minister's reaction was after the footage of Uma Thomas falling 15 feet from a temporary stage went viral on social media.

The accident happened on the stage arranged for VIPs for the dance event to enter the Guinness Record at Kaloor Stadium. It is clear from the footage that there was no space in the venue. The video shows Uma Thomas coming from the back row to the front row. She first sat in a chair and then stood up. While trying to pass someone standing on the stage, the MLA slipped and fell down along with the ribboned stand. City Police Commissioner Putta Vimaladitya and Saji Cheri were sitting there. The incident happened in front of them.

Saji Cherian then told media that he did not understand that a major accident had occurred. He said before the programme got over; he had gone to the hospital to know about her condition.
