NEW DELHI: In a move to navigate the ongoing constitutional crisis, the President's Rule has been imposed in Manipur, and the state assembly has been suspended. President Droupadi Murmu approved the report submitted by Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, following which the Union Ministry of Home Affairs issued an official notification. The decision comes five days after Chief Minister N. Biren Singh resigned from his post.
The BJP leadership’s attempts to pacify the dissenting MLAs had failed, leading to the imposition of President’s Rule as a temporary solution to the crisis. The BJP hopes to form a new cabinet within three months. Meanwhile, the Governor has assessed the security situation in the state. A high-level meeting with CRPF officials was held today at the Raj Bhavan to discuss the prevailing conditions.
