More than 9,500 employees, including those working in the interior, energy, health, agriculture, and military veterans' care sectors, are being laid off. Many are on probation. There are allegations that no warning was given to employees about the layoffs. Employees complain that they received the layoff notices through Microsoft group calls and pre-prepared messages. Employees say that although there were reports that they would be notified in advance via email if they were laid off, they have not received any such notification.

Meanwhile, the tax collection agency, the Internal Revenue Service, is reportedly set to lay off thousands of employees next week. There has been criticism of Elon Musk's intervention in the layoffs. However, Officials have said that there were concerns about Musk's role and that the measures were approved after conducting a formal audit. U.S. media reports that there will be more layoffs and that this is only the first phase. It is reported that about 200,000 people are on the verge of mass layoffs.
