WASHINGTON: Nine months of uncertainty are changing. Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore will return to Earth from space on the 19th of March. The SpaceX Crew-10 mission, which is set to bring them back, was successfully launched.

The launch was made at 4.33 am today from the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida on a Falcon 9 rocket. The spacecraft will dock with the space station at 9 am today. Then the 4 members in the spacecraft (Anne McClain, Nicole Ayers, Takuya Onishi, and Kirill Peskov) will enter the station. Sunita is planned to return after providing them with the necessary training. The return journey will be on the SpaceX Crew-9 spacecraft, which reached in September. Weather conditions are also crucial. NASA astronaut Nick Hague and Russia's Alexander Gorbunov will also be with them.

Days of waiting

  • On June 5, 2024, Sunita and Wilmore reached the station on the Boeing Starliner spacecraft for an 8-day mission.
  • The two were supposed to return to Earth on June 13. The journey was interrupted due to a helium leak in the spacecraft. The Starliner returned unmanned on September 7.
  • November 13: Sunita explained that the reason for her fatigue was the strenuous exercise to combat microgravity.
  • January 30, 2025: Sunita performed a spacewalk for more than 5 hours. With this, she became the woman who walked in space for the longest time (62 hours and 6 minutes).
