NEW DELHI: CPI leader Annie Raja has made serious allegations against Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil, stating that complaints had been raised against him even during his student days in Delhi. According to her, he repeatedly approached several young women, including women activists, who firmly rebuffed him.
Annie Raja demanded that the Congress party should ask Rahul to resign. She further questioned the party’s stance on the “rights of the fetus destroyed by Rahul,” adding that political credibility should apply equally to all parties and fronts.
Meanwhile, there are strong rumours that Rahul may step down from his MLA post. With local body and assembly elections nearing, Congress and UDF reportedly believe that his resignation would help project a cleaner image. They also calculate that, at a time when LDF leaders facing allegations have not resigned, such a move would give Congress a bonus point.
Opposition Leader V.D. Satheesan also hinted at resignation, stating that the allegations will be treated with seriousness and that uncompromising action will follow.
