Govt forms anti-narcotic investigation team; Second phase of ‘Operation Toofan’ from Sept 28

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said the government has issued an order forming the Toofan Anti-Narcotic Investigation Team. The new team has been constituted to investigate inter-state drug trafficking networks, with investigation units based in Ernakulam, Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram, said the home minister while addressing the media in Thiruvananthapuram.


‘A total of 10,918 cases has been registered as part of Operation Toofan. In connection with the Malappuram MDMA case, four more have been arrested under the leadership of SP Chaithra Theresa John. With this, the total number of arrests in the case has risen to 13. The accused were arrested from Gujarat and Chennai.

The gang had been trafficking drugs in Delhi, Bengal and Noida. The second phase of Operation Toofan will begin on September 28,’ Chennithala said
