Sree Narayana Guru Chair faces discrimination from authorities

mg

KOTTAYAM: The Sree Narayana Guru Chair, which was instituted in the MG University several years ago, has been facing discrimination from the authorities. It has been five years since the Sree Narayana Guru Chair in the MG University ceased to function. Despite the demands from various Sree Narayana movements, there has been no move to appoint a chairman or revive the chair.

According to authorities, there is no own fund to run the various chairs. A syndicate member said that the Sree Narayana Guru Chair could be revived if funds are raised from outside. The Sree Narayana Guru Chair was instituted in the MG University on 8 January 1997 to perpetuate the message and ideas of Sree Narayana Guru. Prof. MK Sanu was the first Chairman. The chairman position had remained vacant for years after Sanu's term. Dr. Thevannoor Maniraj, who took charge in 2014, was the last chairman.

SNDP General Secretary Vellapally Natesan, who inaugurated the Chair, had handed over books and racks worth Rs 2.5 lakh. Although a room was opened with the board of the Sree Narayana Chair near the PRO office, it was converted for the activities of the National Service Scheme in 2016. The board of the Sree Narayana Chair was also removed from the room. It is to be seen whether the books donated by Natesan were stolen by someone. Meanwhile, authorities are claiming that the books are kept inside the NSS office.
