CBI arrests Pettah native for elephant hunting

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CBI Chennai unit on a secret operation has arrested Aji Bright, a native of Pettah, Thiruvananthapuram for elephant hunting and selling of ivory. The arrest happened in a dramatic manner while the latter was distributing milk. The CBI authorities blocked his vehicle, took the key and then arrested the accused. Later on, his brother was informed. He was taken to Coimbatore and will be produced before court today.

The arrest was based on cases reported in 2011-12 in Coimbatore. Five cases were reported by CBI for elephant hunting under Madras High Court’s Madurai division bench order. 18 elephants were killed during the hunt and ivory were sent to Kolkata and Delhi. Several high-profile arrests happened in this case. The arrest was led by Santosh Kumar, DYSP CBI Chennai Unit.
