Girl raped since UKG, madrassa teacher arrested

KOLLAM: A madrassa teacher who had been sexually assaulting a girl, who came for religious studies, was arrested. The accused has been identified as Akbar Shah (48) of Thazhuthala Mailapur Punnalavila house, a teacher in the Mailapur Muslim Jama’at mosque. He had continued to abuse the girl since 2017, during her UKG school days, in the classroom on the first floor of the madrassa building. The girl had confessed about the assault on November 21, 2021 to her mother, following which her parents lodged a complaint at the Kottiyam police station. The accused was arrested on Wednesday, soon after the case was registered.

As directed by the Chathannoor ASP Gopakumar, sub inspectors Shyamakumari, Ashtaman and ASI Sunil made the arrest under the supervision of Kottiyam inspector Jimstel.
