DHAKA: The interim government has converted the official residence of the Bangladesh Prime Minister, 'Ganabhaban', into a museum. It will be inaugurated today, the first anniversary of the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from power, under the name 'July Revolution Memorial Museum'.
Work to convert the residence into a museum is currently underway. Therefore, it will be opened to the public only after receiving final approval. This is the residence where former prime ministers, including Hasina, have lived. It was in 1973 that Hasina's father and the Father of the Nation of Bangladesh, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, built Ganabhaban, a luxurious residence with high security facilities next to the parliament.
Describing Ganabhaban as 'Hasina's family residence', interim government head Muhammad Yunus announced that Ganabhaban would be turned into a museum representing Hasina's 'misrule'. The trial of the cases filed against Hasina in connection with last year's student protests has begun in a Bangladeshi court.
