Commonwealth Games: Sharmila creates history, first Indian to win gold in Para Athletics

GLASGOW: Sharmila Dhankar won India's second gold in the women's shot put F57 final at the Commonwealth Games. With this, the country's medal tally rose to 10 at the end of the fifth day.

Sharmila has created history by becoming the first Indian to win a gold medal in Para Athletics at the Commonwealth Games by winning the gold medal in the women's shot put F57 final. India's Shilpa K Shyla, who competed in the same event, rose from fourth place to win bronze.

Sarvesh Anil Kushare wins silver in the men's high jump final. Sarvesh Kushare, the national record holder in high jump, is the first Indian to win a silver medal in the men's high jump event at the Commonwealth Games. Valluri Ajaya Babu also won silver in the men's 79kg weightlifting final.

Earlier, Gyaneshwari Yadav had won silver in the women's 53kg weightlifting final. Bindyarani Devi also won bronze in the women's 58kg final. India has so far won two gold, five silver and three bronze. In boxing, Sachin Siwach (60kg), Ankush Panghal (80kg) and Sakshi Chaudhary (women's 51kg) have entered the quarterfinals.
